Portrait of New Orleans famed Voodoo Queen, Marie Laveau!

"Marie Laveau" 12 x 16, available by Andrew LaMar Hopkins.

This is the 3rd, large 12 x 16 painting of Marie Laveau in a on going series of paintings of the famed New Orleans voodoo queen, available, PM me for price. Marie Catherine Laveau (September 10, 1801– June 15, 1881) was a Louisiana Creole practitioner of Voodoo, who was renowned in New Orleans. Her daughter, Marie Laveau II, (1827 — c. 1862) also practiced rootwork, conjure, Native American and spiritualism as well as Louisiana or what is known today as New Orleans Voodoo. She and her mother had great influence over their multiracial following. "In 1874 as many as twelve thousand spectators, both black and white, swarmed to the shores of Lake Pontchartrain to catch a glimpse of Marie Laveau performing her legendary rites on St. John's Eve (June 23–24)."

Becky's Birthday party

Désirée Joséphine Duplantier and the birthday girl Becky!

Last week Désirée Joséphine Duplantier attended a wonderful birthday party of a good friend Becky. I have known Becky for over 11 years. I first met her and her husband Bob right before Hurricane Katrina as they were renting a lovely 1820's Creole house from another good friend Peter. We have kelp in touch all this time. After Hurricane Katrina when I moved to Baltimore, Bob and Becky would let me stay in the French Quarter weekend place. On one of these visits Becky made me one of my favorate Southern desserts. Blackberry cobbler! I still have the photo of it. I was out all day and when I returned a warm homemade cobbler was waiting for me on a marble nightstand. I will never forget this. The birthday party was fabulous. Upon arrival  Désirée Joséphine Duplantier was handed a 1850's coin silver mint juip cup with a wonderful cocktail inside! It was nice to see old Friends and make new ones. A good time was had by all.

A surprise homemade blackberry cobbler left on my night stand. I friend actually made this for me.

Introducing my alter ego Désirée Joséphine Duplantier!

Désirée Joséphine Duplantier

It's time for me to come out of the Drag Queen closet on my blogg. For the past year and a half I have been doing Drag. My alter ego is the fabulous "Désirée Joséphine Duplantier". Désirée Joséphine Duplantier is a big mix of A Southern Belle, The "Golden Age" of Hollywood glamour of the 1930's,40's & 50s. The strong woman in my family and the French Aristocratic grande dame you might see sitting at a French cafe with her big hat and pearls on. Désirée Joséphine Duplantier started 2 Halloweens ago as fun and has blossomed into a big part of my life that I would like to share here on my blogg. Becoming Désirée Joséphine Duplantier has open up new doors for me as a person and artist.

As a small child growing up in Mobile, Alabama I use to look at American movie classics. And wanted to be one of the iconic old Hollywood glamour beauties I saw as a child in the movies of the Golden Age of Hollywood. Désirée Joséphine Duplantier has open wonderful doors for Andrew LaMar Hopkins. Désirée Joséphine Duplantier has been invited to many fashionable party's, a week at a château in France, and to walk the red carpet at the Festival de Cannes. Désirée Joséphine Duplantier has become such a big part of the life of Artist and Antiques dealer Andrew LaMar Hopkins that I could not imagine sharing her on my blog or the world. Photo's are from the past year and a half of in the life of Désirée Joséphine Duplantier!
